WORCESTER Mass. Sept. 29, 2024 – On the early hours of Sunday morning a black SUV crashed at high speed into eight parked vehicles on Tacoma Street leaving behind significant damages. The driver of the SUV is yet to be identified as a man is seen through security camera recordings fleeing the scene on foot according to one of the affected neighbors.
Some individuals posted various videos on social media capturing the seriousness of the situation. One of the most impactful videos shared was a security camera recording from one of the houses in front of Tacoma Street where the crash happened. In the 10-second long video the black SUV can be seen rapidly entering the scene crashing into multiple parked cars along the side of the street. The video ends with the image of the SUV blocking the middle of the intersection as the multiple impacts forced it to stop.
A 37-second long video taken by one of the residents shows more clearly the damages and the reactions of some of the individuals affected by the crash.
“When I woke up to all this madness I thanked God because my car wasn’t parked on that street last night,” said Matias Alcantara, resident of one of the apartments on Tacoma Street. Alcantara mentioned that he usually parks his newly-leased car on the same street where the accident happened, but the night before he decided to use one of the parking spots in front of his home instead of his usual choice. Alcantara could not have imagined that the small decision he made hours before was going to save him thousands of dollars in repairs.
The Worcester Police Department has not yet disclosed any arrests made in relation to the incident. The authorities are actively working on identifying the responsible individual and gathering information from the evidence available.
